Do you have a sweet or savoury tooth and like trying new food items? Just a short stroll from Christchurch’s new Stadium Te Kaha, Measured Coffee has the most divine sweets, savoury items and coffees that are hard to turn away from. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by the aroma of baked goods. Behind its cabinet lies a lineup of irresistible treats, so I’ve narrowed it down to three products from here that you should go and try for yourself.

Olive Oil Sea salt cookie- Measured Coffee
Olive Oil + Sea Salt Cookies from Measured Coffee Frankie Dobbs/ NZBS

Starting strong, this isn’t your typical cookie. It's an olive oil and sea salt chocolate chip cookie- perfectly rounded and cooked to golden perfection. Being crispy on the outside, the inside folds into a soft, rich centre delivering deep flavour from the very first bite. The taste of the bittersweet 65% dark chocolate from Solomon’s Gold and that slight hint of sea salt is a unique variation of your standard chocolate chip cookie. If you’re a lover of dark chocolate, consider it a match made in heaven. Because of how good it is, it will make you crave another one of these delicious creations.

Cheese scone from Measured Coffee

Secondly, it’s a classic! A good old cheese scone. Cooked as a round ball of dough to get that desired puffiness of a typical cheese scone, the moment you cut into it, the smell of cheese storms out and tickles your nose. Its light, fluffy and barely crumbles unlike ones from other cafes. When heated, and you take that big bite into one of the halves, you’re met with a slight crunch on the outside, followed by a soft buttery centre that melts in your mouth, leaving a rich cheesy warmth behind.

Third and finally we have a hot chocolate made with Solomons gold real chocolate paired with their natural milk produced at a local farm in Springston, just 25 minutes outside of Christchurch. Served warm and silky, its rich and slightly thick, which makes every sip feel indulgent. With the first sip, the deep chocolate flavour blends perfectly with the creamy milk, warming you up from the inside out, almost like you’re wrapped tightly in a blanket. Other drinks they offer, such as chai are also made using in-house syrups, they’ve crafted to perfection themselves.

So, whether you’re after a comforting treat to help get you through your day or simply just a cheeky wee sweet treat, Measured Coffee has you sorted. With thoughtfully crafted flavours, and the use of local ingredients, it’s the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more. When you’re in the city centre next, or even by Te Kaha, treat yourself and go check out what’s on offer- you might just find your new favourite go-to café in the heart of Otautahi.
